Actinic lichen planus

Lichen planus (LP) is a papulosquamous inflammatory dermatitis that affects less than 1% of the population

Classic lichen planus typically presents as erythematous to violaceous flat-topped papules that are pruritic and polygonal

In actinic LP, specifically, affected people develop mildly itchy, coin-shaped patches on sun-exposed areas such as the face, neck, and backs of the hands

Mild cases can often be managed with topical steroids, while more intensive therapies may be required for severe cases

Actinic LP is more common in dark-skinned populations; it is extremely rare in Caucasians
